MyPanic Ride & Meet: Proactive Personal Safety In South Africa

MyPanic is our 24/7 on‑demand personal security and medical assistance app that connects you to the nearest armed response or emergency medical team anywhere in South Africa. With the new Ride and Meet features, MyPanic now helps protect you before an emergency happens, turning everyday journeys and meet‑ups into smart, monitored safety events.

What Is MyPanic?

Before we get into the new features, let’s have a look at what MyPanic is.

MyPanic is a mobile panic app from Matrix that dispatches trained armed responders or medical assistance directly to your GPS location at the touch of a button. If you feel unsafe, threatened or need urgent medical help, you simply press and hold the HELP button in the app and the closest response vehicle is sent to you, not just at home or in your car, but anywhere in South Africa.

Behind the scenes, a 24/7 control room confirms your emergency and co‑ordinates a fast, efficient response using a national network of over a thousand armed responders.

The MyPanic app has 2 new features: Ride and Meet. In this blog, we have a look at ride.

Ride: Personal Safety While You Travel

MyPanic Ride lets you log any journey and automatically puts a safety net around your trip, whether it is a short drive home or a long‑distance work run. You set your expected travel time, and the MyPanic platform monitors the duration in real time, without constantly tracking or sharing your location.

If your ride goes on longer than expected or you stop responding, MyPanic automatically triggers an alert to your chosen contacts or the 24/7 control centre, which can then start your emergency escalation.

Once your trip is complete, you confirm in the app that you are safe, and the control room may call to verify your passphrase or last four digits for added security.

Everyday Ways To Use Ride

MyPanic Ride can be used on a daily basis for late night drives, long distance business travel, school runs and more.

Late‑night drives home from work, campus or social events

You open the MyPanic app, start a Ride, and set how long you expect the trip to take (for example, 25 minutes). The app quietly monitors that time in the background while you drive, without sharing your live location with anyone unless there is a problem.

If you do not arrive and end the Ride, and you also do not respond to a check‑in, MyPanic automatically alerts your chosen contacts or the 24/7 control room so that help can be dispatched if you are in trouble. This exists for those moments when you might be able to call for help – but also might not, such as if your phone is taken or you are forced off the road.

Long‑distance business travel between towns or provinces

Sales reps, technicians and freelancers who spend hours on the road can log each journey as a Ride before setting off. You set your planned arrival time at the next town or client, then simply get on with driving while the system keeps track of whether you arrive on time.

If your journey takes much longer than expected, you stop moving, or you do not respond to a follow‑up call, MyPanic treats it as a potential emergency and starts your escalation process. This is designed for people who drive alone in unfamiliar areas, where a breakdown, accident or criminal incident could leave them unable to make a manual panic call.

School runs, lifts and student transport

Parents can ask teens or students to start a Ride each time they travel – whether that is a lift from campus, a lift club, or a ride‑hailing trip. The young person sets the expected duration, and if they forget to end the Ride and also do not respond to a call, MyPanic will begin escalation and can notify the control room or nominated contacts.

This feature is there to provide an extra layer of assurance in those “in‑between” journeys where anything from a vehicle issue to an unsafe situation could arise, and it ensures someone is automatically checking that the rider has arrived safely without relying on them to remember every time.
