In the early hours of Sunday morning (8 July), two vehicles, a Toyota Yaris and a Chevrolet Aveo, allegedly had a head on collision on the R21 South about a kilometre from the Nellmapius off ramp. The reason or cause of the accident is speculative at present and is being investigated by police services.
“Four people were declared dead on the scene by the paramedics and one patient with moderate injuries was transported to a nearby hospital by emergency services,” reports Terence Teixeira from the Matrix Road Safety Association, who was on the scene.
“This is a tragedy and we send our condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. While the cause of the accident is unknown, we urge motorists to be cautious and obey speed limits especially on highways,” he says.
