DRIVER SUSTAINS SERIOUS INJURIES AFTER VEHICLE COLLISION WITH A TREE ON BARBARA ROAD

At approximately 19:00 on 21 July the driver of a Nissan Sabre travelling on Barbara Road in Primrose lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle rolled several times before colliding with a tree resulting in the driver, a young man, sustaining serious injuries including sever trauma to the head and possible neck trauma.

On arrival at the scene the Matrix Road Safety Association vehicle assisted in providing scene safety and its on-board Emer-G-Med medic assisted paramedics already on scene. Emergency services cleared a nearby intersection to allow for a helicopter to make a landing. After the patient was stabilised on the scene, he was airlifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Dave Johnston, consultant for the Matrix Road Safety Association, says excessive speeding is very often the cause of driver’s losing control of their vehicles. “It is very difficult to react in time and regain vehicle control when driving at high speeds. Speeding also does not allow sufficient time for the driver to anticipate and plan for possible upcoming hazards, vehicles or pedestrians. To make matters worse in many instances people are also not wearing their seatbelts and unfortunately they pay dearly for this,” he says.
